The CAC & P.A.I.N.T. (Performance Art Integrating New Technologies) present
Electro-Sonic Painting:
An Interactive Art Performance
Contemporary Arts Center
$10 CAC Members & Students with ID, $12 General Admission
A unique style in New Orleans art, PAINT is a performance that meshes visual art and music in one technological process called Electro-Sonic Painting. Electro-Sonic Painting is the brainchild of Marcus Brown, a homegrown artist and graduate of the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. After Hurricane Katrina, Brown evacuated to Portland, Oregon. During his two years there, worked on a master's degree, while inventing a process that makes playing music and creating visual art at the same time possible - all with electronically-charged brushes and canvases Brown fabricates and wires himself. Brown's latest tool, a year in the making, looks much like a Star Wars light saber and plays like a guitar. Collaborator Nathan Weidenhaft, programmer and guitarist, plays his own creative space-age instruments. Weidenhaft plays his guitar like an air harp or Theremin, using his hand to bend notes and create different sounds.
PAINT brings the audience into the show with a musical playground of visual tools. During intermission members of the audience are invited to experiment with the "new-art" technology and create their own Electro-Sonic art. Film Artist Zac Manuel will join Brown and Weidenhaft for this extraordinary experience.
